What is Paideia Education?

Paideia Education is a teaching philosophy that focuses on developing the whole child—not just academic knowledge, but also critical thinking, communication skills, character, and a lifelong love of learning.

The word Paideia comes from ancient Greek and means “the education of the complete person.”

Benefits of a Paideia Education

● Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
● Effective communication and collaboration
● Greater student engagement
● Preparation for college, careers, and civic life
● Development of lifelong learners

The Three Pillars of Paideia

Didactic Instruction (Knowledge)

Teachers provide direct instruction and foundational knowledge.Students learn essential facts, concepts, and skills.

Coaching (Skills Development)

Students practice and apply what they've learned. Teachers act as coaches, guiding students through hands-on activities, projects, and problem-solving.

Socratic Seminars (Critical Thinking)

Students engage in thoughtful discussions about ideas, texts, and real-world issues. The focus is on asking questions, supporting opinions with evidence, listening to others, and thinking deeply.

What Does Paideia Look Like in the Classroom?

Students actively participate in discussions rather than simply listening to lectures

Learning is connected across subjects and to real-world experiences

Teachers encourage inquiry, collaboration, and reflection

Students learn how to think, not just what to think

Paideia aligns well with your focus on rigorous academics, project-based learning, creativity, and student engagement, helping students become thoughtful, capable, and confident learners who are prepared for future success.

Learning is better outside! ☀️Our 5th graders at our Fulton Heights campus took science beyond the classroom and headed outdoors to explore gravity in action! Through hands-on learning, students had the chance to observe, experiment, and see how the force that keeps us grounded works in the world around them. There’s nothing better than getting outside, asking questions, and making science come to life! ... EXCITING NEWS FOR JONES CHARTER ACADEMY! 🎷🎺This past Saturday, August 8th, Jones Charter Academy had the incredible opportunity to visit the Newman Center at the University of Denver as one of several schools selected to receive donated instruments through Bringing Music to Life! 💜Bringing Music to Life is a nonprofit organization that collects donated instruments during its annual instrument drive each spring. Before the instruments make their way into the hands of students, they are professionally repaired, refreshed, and equipped with new accessories as needed. Thanks to this amazing organization, JCA received approximately 30 instruments for our Instrumental Music Program! 🎶 These instruments will give many of our students the opportunity to have their very first band instrument—an opportunity they may not otherwise have had.JCA was also selected in a drawing for one of the program's rare, larger donated instruments. Tubas, double basses, and baritone saxophones are especially uncommon during instrument donation drives—and we were lucky enough to receive a BARITONE SAXOPHONE! What an incredible addition to our music program!A HUGE thank you to Mr. Jonah Archuleta, JCA Vocal Music Instructor, for helping haul and load all of these instruments! We couldn't have done it without you!We can't wait to hear the music our students will make! ... See MoreSee Less
